Raising awareness is the first step in the process of change. Effective advocacy consists of an individual, group or organization educating people about the state of homelessness, the impact it has on society and how it can be solved. An important part of presenting solutions is including a clear call to action. Advocating for specific practices and policies to be adopted, modified or eliminated at the local, national, regional or global level is a crucial part of preventing and ending homelessness. An impactful component of advocacy is educating people about how the issue of homelessness intersects with other societal issues. This encourages practitioners and stakeholders in other, intersecting, fields of work to become allies and engage in collaborative work.
